Face your Fears and Get Fit!

C 4th February 2015

Face Your Fears

Everyone is scared of something. It might be spiders, an irrational fear of flying, or it might be a fear of heights.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” – Nelson Mandela

Fear can hold you back from living your life happily. It’s so easy to ignore them and hope they’ll go away but they so rarely do and end up haunting up for years. Up to 5% of the population are afraid of heights, with women twice as likely to feel the fear.

Go Ape have bundled together a few tips for those with the fear:

  1. Face it. If you know what makes you worry then take little steps to face it.
  2. Relax. Learn to breathe deeply to reduce the feelings of anxiety.
  3. Embrace your fear! Go Ape is the ultimate goal for those conquering their fears –  gather your tribe and head to the forest to conquer your fear at Go Ape Margam Park, near Swansea.

Get Fit In The Process

With the new year in full swing, it is the perfect opportunity to get fit, tone up and have fun, whether it be on your own or with family or friends.   If you’re not a gym goer, why not make the most of the great outdoors and try something completely unique?  For most people, working 45 minutes plus in the gym is a chore, but not on a Go Ape adventure.

There’s absolutely nothing that beats real-life adventure. We believe that through our Go Ape team building adventures, people can get heaps out of it, and they’ll have more fun in the process. Adventures are an ideal way to keep fit. And, what’s more, half of the time you won’t even realise you’re exercising (because you’ll be having so much fun, of course!).

We’ve conducted a health and fitness study to establish what muscle groups are used as well as the average amount of calories burnt whilst enjoying a Tree Top Adventure.  Go Ape includes a variety of challenging activities including swinging through the forest on zip wires, crossing wooden bridges and climbing tree-top ladders whilst safely attached to a harness.

Based on an average of 100-120 minutes worth of ‘Go Ape’ time, the average amount of calories burned are:

  • Males – 660 calories (equivalent to a six-inch pepperoni pizza)
  • Females – 510 calories (equivalent to a bacon double-cheeseburger)

If you’re worried about your knees knocking and your arms trembling – never fear; Go Ape is there and they have helped lots of people to conquer their fear of heights. Why not give it a try – you might surprise yourself!
