Sunday 15 Sep

Saturday 23 September 2023, 11am – 4.30pm.

If you are interested in archaeology and history, you might want to join us for a fun day at Oystermouth Castle on Saturday 22 July.

Gower Unearthed, a local organisation that promotes the heritage and culture of the Gower Peninsula, will be on hand alongside other practitioners such as Dryad bushcraft to guide you through a young archaeologists’ trial dig and other family activities. You will have the chance to learn how to excavate, record and identify artefacts from different periods of history, plus there will be opportunities to join in workshops making Roman jewellery, stone carving and learning new skills making prehistoric tools.

In addition, the Heritage Metal Detectorists Club, a group of enthusiasts who use metal detectors to find and preserve historical objects, will showcase some of their finds from around Swansea Bay. You will be amazed by the variety and significance of the items they have discovered, such as coins, jewellery, weapons, and tools. You will also learn about the ethics and laws of metal detecting, and how to report and record your finds.

The event is free and open to all ages, but normal admission charges apply.
