A showing of Skyfall on a big screen at Oystermouth Castle on the evening of Friday May 10 is among a series of outdoor movies in the pipeline for Swanseafilm fans.

Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, Judy Dench and Javier Bardem, has been widely acclaimed as among the best James Bond films of all-time.

Swansea Council is behind the fun.

A screening of Les Miserables will then follow at the castle on the evening of Saturday May 11. Les Miserables, based on the world’s longest-running stage musical, stars Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway.

Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Oystermouth Castle has been an outstanding success story since its reopening after major conservation works. It’s a fantastic landmark that attracts many thousands of visitors every year. The grounds also provide a great outdoor event location with the castle forming a majestic backdrop.

“The castle’s heritage and setting make it an ideal place to screen outdoor movies like Skyfall and Les Miserables. They’re epic films that will help generate a fantastic atmosphere.

“Popcorn and hotdogs will be on sale to help recreate the atmosphere of a traditional cinema and visitors will have the chance to hire deckchairs too.”

As part of the summer Swansea Bay Festival programme, Transformers will also be screened at a few community parks at the start of May. It’s being shown in Ynystawe Park at 7.30pm on Saturday May 4 and then at Loughor’s Parc William at 7.30pm on Sunday May 5.
