Ji Liu, a pano playing prodigy will be headlining the Vera Smart Trust Concert at the historic venue on Thursday April 25.

Ji, who was born in China in 1990, first appeared in New York City’s world-famous Carnegie Hall aged just 13. He’s also performed at the Louvre in Paris, the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow and London’s Royal Festival Hall.

He’ll be performing works by composers including Debussy, Chopin and Beethoven at the Brangwyn Hall. Swansea Council helped organise his appearance.

Norman Smart set up the Vera Smart Trust two years ago in his wife’s name to promote chamber music in Swansea.

Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The Brangwyn Hall has a proud tradition of attracting major names from all genres of music and it’s a major feather in the attraction’s cap that Ji Liu is set to perform there.

“Ji’s concert is one of several over coming months that should appeal to people of all ages and tastes.”

Other forthcoming performances at the Brangwyn Hall include the Swansea Philharmonic Choir on Saturday April 27 and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on Friday May 3.

The Ty Hafan Gala concert will be held at the venue on May 4 when tenor Rhys Meirion and soprano Gwawr Edwards will perform with the Ariosa Singers in support of Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice. They’ll also be joined on stage by a 150-strong male voice choir.

Cerys Matthews will be appearing live at the Brangwyn Hall on Friday May 31.
