Synergy Dance, Gypsy Jazz and the Dixielanders are some of the acts due to take to the stage for Swansea’s Big Lunch in Castle Square on Sunday (June 2) from 11am to 3pm to help mark the nationwide celebrations.

The Big Lunch is an idea stemming from the Eden Project that aims to get as many people from across the whole of the UK to have lunch together in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

People who’d like to go along to Castle Square are being encouraged to pack a picnic and take their families and friends along too. Circus skills workshops and stilt-walkers will be there for entertainment, and tables and chairs will be available for free.

The event forms part of the Swansea Bay Festival summer events programme being organised by Swansea Council.

Cllr Nick Bradley, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Events of this nature are brilliant for fostering community spirit. Similar activities will be taking place right across the UK, so this is a chance for Swansea people to join in the nationwide festivities.

“All you have to do to take part is turn up with a picnic and enjoy the live entertainment that’s been arranged. From jazz music to street dance, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.”

After the live entertainment has finished, there’ll be a chance for people to watch Disney blockbuster ‘Wreck it Ralph’ on the Big Screen from 3.15pm.
