The road and footways on Burrows Place are being resurfaced with high-quality, natural stone materials as part of the boulevard project.

The road surface and footways are also being made the same level to generate better connections to Museum Green for pedestrians.

A temporary road closure has been introduced on Burrows Place, but clearly signed diversions are in place to inform drivers.

Swansea Museum is open throughout the improvement works, which are expected to last about six weeks.

Cllr Nick Bradley, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Museum Green is an important area because it links the city centre with the Maritime Quarter. This is why we’re focussing on improving its appearance for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists who use the area to pass between places like Wind Street and the marina every day.

“The improvements on Burrows Place will be consistent with those already introduced on parts of Adelaide Street, helping enhance the setting of not just the museum but other architecturally striking buildings in the area too. Works to upgrade parts of Adelaide Street not yet improved will take place later in the year, and a new high-quality crossing point over Quay Parade to Museum Green will be put in place closer to the bottom of Wind Street.

“These improvements could also help attract more investment in future.”

The first phase of the boulevard scheme stretches from Princess Way to The Strand. Footways either side of the main road are now being widened and re-laid laid with high-quality, natural pennant stone to match what’s already in place on pavements close to the River Tawe bridges.

A second phase of boulevard works will follow next year between The Strand and the river bridges. The completed scheme will include over 80 new trees along the route.

The boulevard project is funded by the Welsh Government’s Regeneration Area programme, the European Regional Development Fund and Swansea Council.
