It’s one of the ways Swansea Council is trying to make this year’s Bae Fest as environmentally-friendly and sustainable as possible.

The Bae Fest, taking place on Swansea Bay beach opposite St Helen’s on Saturday September 28 and Sunday September 29, is one of the largest free events of its kind in Wales.

Live music, have-a-go sport sessions, cookery demonstrations, traditional craft displays and lots of other entertainment will feature.

Organisations taking part are also asked to consider their impact on the environment by only using recycled paper. The event is looking to reduce the amount of promotional materials used too, including balloons that sometimes make their way into the sea where they can cause considerable harm to wildlife.

Cllr Sybil Crouch, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainability, said: “As we continue to consider our impact on the environment in everything we do, events like this are a good example of where we can lead and ask our partners to join us.

“Sustainably recycling and reducing waste at events is not just good for the planet – it also makes sense when faced with limited resources.”

Cllr Nick Bradley, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “Visitors to this year’s Bae Festwill have no doubt of the event’s environmental focus because we’re dedicating a marquee to the natural environment, and both local and national environmental groups will be joining in the educational fun with interactive stands.

“But there’ll also be lots of other fun available to cater for all ages and interests. This combination will lead to one of the best and greenest free events of its kind in the country.”

Visitors to the event will also be able to handle cockroaches, discover Oystermouth Castle‘s historic secrets and learn how to grow their own food. Other activities will include stand-up paddle board kayaking sessions, cycling and stories based on Swansea Museum‘s rich collection.

Free parking will be available at the Recreation Ground for the weekend of the event.
