Romance blossoms early in Wales, the patron saint of Welsh lovers doesn’t wait for February …

… she’s ready to rekindle romance just when we need it, in the heart of chilly January. With Christmas long gone and Spring still in the future – Santes Dwynwen reminds us that we still have our true love to keep us warm.

But who was Santes Dwynwen? She was a beautiful fifth century princess from the Brecon Beacons, who having been denied her true love, Maelon, prayed to forget him. An angel gave Dwynwen a potion to forget and turned Maelon to ice!

Dwynwen was given three wishes, with the first she thawed her true love, with the second asked that true lovers would achieve their dreams and with her third – that she herself would never marry. Her wishes were granted and in thanks Dwynwen founded a convent off the coast of North Wales.

So, if you’re thinking of popping that all important question on the 25th January then we’ve got 5 perfect places to say ‘dwi’n dy garu di’ (I love you) three weeks before St Valentine’s gets around to it!

1. Worm’s Head, Rhossili Bay

The sunset over Rhossili Bay is one of the most photographed sunsets in the world! Dramatic backdrop – check. Breath taking scenery – check. Ring – check. Go for it!

2.  Arthur’s Stone

With panoramic views across Gower, this Neolithic burial tomb dating back to 2500 B.C is steeped in myth and legend. A perfect location to propose!

3. Mumbles

There’s something romantic about ice cream, lovespoons and walks along the Prom right? There are so many spots in Mumbles to propose – and a long promenade to choose your perfect spot!

4.  Penllergare Valley Woods

With the dramatic backdrop of the waterfall at Penllergare, woodland walks and the sound of the (love) birds tweeting, you’ll be hard pushed to find a more secluded spot for your special moment.

5.  Clyne Gardens

Head to the Admiral’s Tower at Clyne Gardens and pop the question in the most romantic setting!

Pob lwc (good luck)! And if the answer is ‘yes’ – we hear that Swansea Bay is a nice place for a wedding …
