Falla draws on his Andalusian roots to create an inimitable vision of Spain, through a comic ballet and then, by complete contrast, the sultry world of gardens flowering at night. Ravel’s piano concerto for left hand starts in a similarly dark and suggestive space, before he and his compatriot Debussy celebrate the lighter, brighter side to Spain.
