The recipient of this year’s Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist Award 2017 is Bob Gelsthorpe. Gelsthorpe is based in Cardiff and works through a range of media including performance, photography and sculpture. This exhibition takes its inspiration from his late grandfather’s toolbox and explores notions of labour and memory.

The Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist Award takes place in alternate years, funded by the Friends of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery from a generous gift by the late Sir Leslie Joseph. Entry is open to young artists throughout the UK who have received part of their education in Wales.

The Award offers an excellent opportunity to present their first solo exhibition in a public gallery. Previous award winners include Will Nash, Tomas Lewis, Richard Monahan and Heather Phillipson.
