Getting kids offscreen and outdoors over the October half term week in Swansea! Back by popular demand, our video game inspired activity days return. In games like Minecraft and Fortnite, players have to survive in a hostile environment; build their own house, hunt for their food, hunt for materials and fend off wandering monsters. Sure, your child can survive in the wilderness on the computer screen, but can they do it out in the woods? In our unique outdoor game kids have to work together, using what they know from video games, to learn outdoor survival skills and earn points along the way.

Playing our ‘Wildcraft Adventure’ game is a fantastic way to get your video game obsessed child out into nature.

Just like in their favourite computer games, kids will be set a number of challenges throughout the day, and all the while be building their dens before ‘night’ falls and the monsters wake up. Players will light their own campfire, ‘mine’ for resources and use sharp axes; all closely supervised by experienced Forest School leaders. There’ll be plenty of time to get creative with play and imagination – of course. This will be a full day of video game inspired activities for kids aged 6-12 years from 10am to 4pm.

We’ll also be enjoying some hot campfire snacks such as sausages and marshmallows. Children should bring their own packed lunch though.

Tickets are £40 per child and we’re offering discount places of £35 for each additional sibling.

Open to children aged between 6 – 12 years. Advance booking is essential – these events have proved REALLY popular.

Parents don’t stay with their children during this event. Our outdoor activity days are all supervised by trained and experienced staff… that’s us. If your child has special needs that you feel would require a parent or guardian to stay with them for the day though, we would advise getting in touch with us in advance of making a booking and we’ll see what we can arrange. We like to be as inclusive as we can.

HOW TO GET TICKETS

Tickets can only be purchased through the woodlandclassroom.com website. There is a link above on this page which will take you straight to our Events page.

ABOUT THE LEADERS

This Wildcraft event is being run by Kate Davies and Ryan Knight-Fox and if your kids have been out with us before they’ve probably met them already. Kate and Ryan have both been our Activity Assistants on many Wildcraft Adventures in both Swansea and Ceredigion.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The venue, Penllergare Valley Woods is a fantastic woodland site. An amazing restoration of this former Victorian estate has taken place to include public footpaths, lakes, waterfalls and a small cafe. Penllergare Valley Woods is less than 5 mins from J47 on the M4, north of Swansea.

Over 2km of paths, steps and historic views have been opened up and uncovered by local volunteers for you to enjoy. Choose a lakeside stroll, a heritage trail, a wild woodland walk or a riverside ramble.

It’s a popular destination for locals to get outdoors for some fresh air and stunning scenery. There is a classroom building with proper toilets that we will have use of also, to help the days run smoothly.

NOT AN OFFICIAL MINECRAFT PRODUCT. NOT APPROVED BY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MOJANG.
