What you’ll need

  • A piece of festive paper for your tree (something double sided will work particularly well)
  • Another small piece of paper for your star / tree top decoration
  • A pencil
  • A ruler
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Twine / string / ribbon if you’d like to string a few together

Step 1

Cut your tree paper into a square – we made ours 15cm x 15cm.

Fold the paper in half diagonally.

Step 2

With the folded crease (longest edge) at the top, draw a 15cm pencil line across the top, about 1cm down from the edge.

Step 3

Rotate the paper and draw another line right to the edge of the paper.

Step 4

Along your longest (first) line, use a ruler to mark out 1.5cm gaps.

Step 5

Using the ruler, draw straight lines down from each mark, to the edge of the paper.

Step 6

Carefully cut along each drawn line, from the edge of the paper up to the top line.

Step 7

Open up your tree shape.

If you’ve used double sided paper, decide which pattern you’d like on the inside / outside.

Step 8

Using a small spot of glue, curl the bottom right branch over and stick it to the edge of the paper.

Step 9

Do the same with the bottom left branch, sticking it over the top.

Step 10

Repeat with each branch, until you reach the top.

Step 11

Trim the top of your tree.

Cut out a star shape from your second piece of paper and glue to the top of your tree.

Step 12

If you’d like to string a few trees together, carefully make two holes in each star and weave some thin thread through.

Or you could stick them to a nice piece of ribbon like we’ve done.
