Swansea International Jazz Festival 2024
15 - 17 June

What you’ll need

  • A twig (any length you like but we made ours 15cm)
  • Festive coloured ribbon or scraps of fabric
(you could even use old laces or recycle a plastic shopping bag by cutting it into thin strips)
  • Scissors
  • Twine / string and glue if you’d like to hang your decoration

Step 1

Cut your twig to your chosen length and collect together your ribbon strips – we made ours 20cm.

Step 2

Tie the ribbon strips around the twig and secure with a double knot. You can move them up and down on the twig, or twist them around to get the best placement.

Leave a small gap at the bottom to look like your Christmas tree trunk and leave a small gap at the top in case you want to add some twine or a star later on.

Step 3

Once all your ribbon strips are attached and lined up, use scissors to carefully trim the ribbons into the shape of a Christmas tree.

Step 4

You can either prop your ribbon tree up against something as a decoration or if you’d like to make it a hanging decoration, tie or glue a small loop of twine or string around the top of the twig.

You could even make a huge ribbon tree to hang on the wall!
