Britain’s first ever standalone World Triathlon Para Series event will be hosted by the City of Swansea on Saturday 6th August 2022 and will see Paralympic, World and European champions complete in the pinnacle of paratriathlon competition , as well as up-and-coming athletes in the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series and GO TRI Disability Aquathlon.

This page will be updated closer to the 2023 event.

In order to safely facilitate the event a number of temporary road closures, traffic diversions and parking restrictions will be in place in the area, ensure the safety of athletes and the public.

A brief closure will take place on Friday 5 August to enable the elite athletes to familiarise themselves with the course, followed by a more comprehensive closure on Saturday 6 August for the Elite and Non-elite races.

Please note;

  • Designated crossing points on the cycle and run courses will be signposted and marshalled, and we request pedestrians use these at all times.
  • Access to emergency services will be maintained at all times
  • Essential access for carers will also be facilitated
  • Parking restrictions will be in place on the bike and run courses, with vehicle towing in operation

Thursday 4th August 6am to Saturday 6th August 9pm

UWTSD SA1 Campus

  • The finish chute, finish line and post-finish services will be located on Kings Road after the junction with Island Road through to the west port gate. The footways alongside the River Tawe from Trafalgar Bridge around UWTSD and the tidal basin will be closed to the public.

 

Friday 5th August

Maritime Quarter, 9am – 10.30am*

  • Trawler Road and Dunvant Place, between Bathhurst Street and Oystermouth Road.

Oystermouth Road, 9am – 10.30am*

  • Oystermouth Rd westbound between Somerset Place and Guildhall Rd South
  • Oystermouth Rd eastbound between Guildhall Rd South and West Way
  • Traffic coming from the east will be diverted across the Tawe Bridge and then north on the A483, before either taking the A4118 to Sketty Cross, A4118 and B4290 to St Helen’s or A4216 south towards Mumbles Road
  • Traffic coming from the west will be diverted onto A4216 Sketty Lane
  • Access to Sainsbury’s will be maintained.

SA1 Waterfront, 9.30am – 11am

  • Kings Rd northbound
  • Langdon Rd
  • Traffic will be diverted on Langdon Rd eastbound to the roundabout leading to Fabian Way

*These closures will be implanted on a rolling basis

Saturday 6th August

Maritime Quarter, 10am – 6pm

  • Trawler Road and Dunvant Place, between Bathhurst Street and Oystermouth Road.
  • If you wish to exit the Maritime Quarter on Saturday afternoon, please park your car in Paxton Street car park before 10:00; there are two windows of time where a managed exit will be facilitated, between 14:00-14:20 and 15:30-15:45

Oystermouth Road, 10am – 6pm

  • Oystermouth Rd westbound between Somerset Place and Guildhall Rd South
  • Oystermouth Rd eastbound between Guildhall Rd South and West Way
  • Traffic coming from the east will be diverted across the Tawe Bridge and then north on the A483, before either taking the A4118 to Sketty Cross, A4118 and B4290 to St Helen’s or A4216 south towards Mumbles Road
  • Traffic coming from the west will be diverted onto A4216 Sketty Lane
  • Access to Sainsbury’s will be maintained throughout the event.

SA1 Waterfront, 7.30am – 6.30pm

  • Kings Rd northbound
  • Langdon Rd
  • Traffic will be diverted on Langdon Rd eastbound to the roundabout leading to Fabian Way.
  • Residents in South Quay will not be able to exit from the underground car park after 7:30am on Saturday morning, but will be able to access the car park from 6:30pm on Saturday evening
