Gareth Thomas – Solo Exhibition

5th – 26th July

Attic Gallery’s July exhibition features new paintings by popular Welsh landscape artist Gareth Thomas.

Gareth Thomas is one of the most collected artists in Wales, well-known as a painter of Gower’s beautiful scenery.

Paintings of well-loved landscapes in South Wales feature strongly in this solo exhibition of new work alongside evocative scenes from France and the beautiful Scottish islands.

The Artist

Gareth Thomas was born in Swansea. In 1979 he committed to painting full time and established a reputation for his atmospheric paintings of the South Wales coastline and particularly the Gower peninsula. He has held numerous solo shows across the UK and his work is widely collected.

Thomas has for many years travelled further afield to paint, and this solo exhibition of new work includes landscapes from France and the islands of Iona and Mull as well as South Wales.  This exhibition also sees his return to painting in oils.

Thomas is highly regarded for his interpretation of colour and light which owes itself to his passion for working outdoors where he reacts to the land around him in “as direct a way as possible”.

Each country’s landscape draws a different response and approach from Thomas which is reflected in his choice of palette.  His focus remains, as for many landscape artists, on the effect of light on colour whether it is “the more sombre atmospherics of Wales or the pure Provencal sky which lights up that beautiful land.”

The gallery is open Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday 10am – 4:30pm. Free admission.
