Are you achieving your weekly physical activity levels?

Did you know that it is recommended that older adults (60+) participate in daily physical activity to gain health benefits, including good physical and mental health, wellbeing, and social benefits.

Swansea Councils Sport and Health team are excited to be part of a new campaign across Wales to engage older adults in Sport and Physical Activity, working in partnership with Freedom Leisure to develop a fun, varied programme of activity across Swansea, which will:

Help to motivate you, as keeping active has amazing benefits for your mental and physical health

Remind you to stay safe and responsible

Support you

The majority of our classes are delivered by Freedom Leisure, and you can be part of their Active Community – be active, be social, be you!

Their ‘Gold’ fitness classes are perfect for those who want to start exercising or return to exercise after the past year. Selected classes are just £3 and include circuits, aerobics, fitness training and aqua aerobics.

Some physical activity is good, more is better! Our Active Older Adults programme also includes walking sports, coffee mornings and multi sports sessions such as short tennis and table tennis sessions across all our centres.

You can book online or call one of the 6 leisure centres to get booked on (see numbers below). Check out the full timetable here

ParkLives offers fun activities in parks, encouraging people to stay active in their local community. From health walks in the community, zumba and circuit classes to mountain boarding and Thai Chi, there’s a variety of sessions to suit everyone. Activities are usually one hour long and led by supportive, friendly, trained session leaders, and volunteers from the local communities, see more details here.

With all the benefits of walking there is no excuse not to get out and enjoy the fresh air and scenery around us. You’ll find out all you need to know about getting healthy through walking with an instructor-led walk, tried and tested walking routes that you can give a go, or joining one of the dedicated walking groups in the Swansea Bay area here.

This programme is brought to you by Swansea Council’s Sport and Health team and in partnership with Freedom Leisure. The programme is funded by Welsh Government as part of the Healthy Weight, Healthy Wales delivery plan and co-ordinated nationally by Sport Wales.
