Many of our beaches have been awarded Blue Flag status which reflects important things like water quality, beach management and how clean they are.
How can you help?
We want all visitors to our beaches to respect them and help us keep them clean.
And it’s really easy
All we ask is for visitors to use litter bins that are available to dispose of their rubbish. If litter bins are full then we are calling on beach users to take their litter home and dispose of it. If litter bins are full then you can also report them here so we can empty them.
How often do we clean beaches?
During the summer months, our litter teams collect litter of beaches every morning. Some of this is litter that has been washed up during high tide
A report published by Surfers Against Sewage (Marine Litter Report) 2014-2020 vision highlighted:
58% of marine litter is attributed to shoreline and recreational activities.
Local Authorities in the UK spending approximately £18 million each year removing beach litter, which represents a 37% increase in cost over the past 10 years.
To further help address this problem, additional beach cleans are also carried out by dedicated voluntary groups and local residents that support the work we already do.
