Sunday 15 Sep

Swansea is the only place in Wales that can fly the Purple Flag, so this September we’re celebrating with the #SwanseaBigWeekend!

There’s a range of things to do on a night out in Swansea City Centre for all the family, and the annual Swansea Big Weekend is designed to introduce you to them all! There’ll be theatre performances, street markets, film screenings, music and events, restaurant offers, dance, games, comedy, sporting activities and much more! And with Swansea being the only place in Wales that can fly the Purple Flag, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a safe and entertaining night out wherever you visit.

On Street Entertainment

On-street entertainment with street dance, stilt walking, fire juggling, classical guitar, bubble shows, drum bands plus a variety of musical acts from the Creative Bubble Summer Stage. The Creative Bubble Busking Stage is a UWTSD/Swansea BID project. They are closing their busy summer season with a special presence in Wind Street as part of Big Weekend. The Stage will be showing off some fantastic talent between 4pm-8pm on the Friday and Saturday. The line-up includes: Eleri Angharad, Gracie Richards, Ragsy, Tom Martin and Sam Gardner.

Big Weekend Street Food Market

As part of the celebrations, Urban Foundry (the team behind Uplands Market and Unit Nineteen) have arranged a street food market in front of Swansea Castle. Running between 4pm-8pm it will feature a whole host of delicious goodies. Traders confirmed so far are: Babita’s Spice Deli (North Indian snacks), Taste of Persia (falafel wraps and Persian dishes), The Meat & Great Co (artisan meaty dishes), La Chandeleur Crepes (sweet and savoury crepes), Ele’s Little Kitchen (Spanish tapas & paella), Sam’s Meat Roasts (fresh burgers), Hoogah (filled pretzels & sausage rolls), Gower Seafood Hut (freshly cooked fish and seafood), Popty Pizza (woodfired pizza), Twister Chips (and hotdogs) and The Wonder Bar (ales, cider & cocktails).

Live Interactive Cinema

This Sept 30 at 6pm, join in the fun at Castle Square with an interactive outdoor showing of Grease! Watch the hit musical come to life with characters from Mark Jermin Stage School, and sing along as the film plays on the Big Screen! There’ll be vintage cars and other props for photo opportunities, and you can even dress up and join in the fun for the full Grease experience. Free deck chairs are available, and don’t worry about the weather – free ponchos are available if needed to.

Safespace – Info Point

Staffed by Police, Street Pastors, Swansea BID staff and backed by Safer Swansea Partnership, the Safespace – Info Point will be located at the top of Castle Square from 10pm – 4am on Saturday 30th. They will be here to help throughout the night to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable night!
