Swansea International Jazz Festival 2024
13 - 17 June

The fifth in Volcano’s new season of short performances.

Bringing the authentic energy and physicality of the boxing gym to a theatre setting, I Did Not Just Waste My Life joins a fighter preparing imminently to face her opponent – not an adversary in the ring but a person who has injured her in life. Will the strategies and skills that protect her in the ring enable her to anticipate his next move, avoid the blows, and defend herself?

Funny, serious, energetic, and unpredictable, Aasiya aims to keep the room on its toes as we follow the twists and turns of her movement and her decisions and share the tension, the hype, and the uncertainty.

AASIYA SHAH has been acting professionally since 2015 and is 26 years old. She started off with the Lyric Young Company and got her first gig in Lyndsey Turner’s production of Tipping the Velvet. She has performed at the Arcola and Hampstead in London as well as touring the UK playing the lead in the Birmingham Rep production of Anita and Me. She has also worked in television as a series lead regular in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves as well as Sky’s comedy series Bloods. During a year of little to no work, Aasiya took to learning the craft of boxing as a total beginner and is now excited by the physicality, control, and fresh energy this can bring to her theatre work.
