The place that normally plays host to Waterfront Winterland will be handed over to Summer Roller, a huge roller-skating rink complete with entertainment, music and even Rocky’s Beach.

Gates open on Wednesday August 14 and the fun goes on until August 27 – the day after the late summer bank holiday.  Tickets are on sale now and are available by calling 01792 637300, visiting www.swanseabayfestival.co.uk or popping in to the Swansea Tourist Information Centre on Plymouth Street.

Visitors enjoying the 30 metre x 20 metre Admiral Roller Rink will be grooving to the sound of 70s and 80s disco tracks to add to the retro feel. It will also include a booth where people can hire roller-skates as part of the price.

Summer Roller is part of the Swansea Bay Festival being organised by Swansea Council which has introduced a family of cartoon characters similar to those created for Waterfront Winterland to help boost youngsters’ interest.

Cllr Nick Bradley, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The Summer Roller will be the perfect way to introduce young children to roller skating and Swansea Council’s Road Safety Rooster will also be putting in regular appearances.

“Off the rink there will be traditional seaside entertainment including a funfair, Punch and Judy shows, face painting and magic shows.

“As anyone who went to the recent Wales National Air Show will know, our city has a lot to offer at this time of year and the Summer Roller has been created to offer a little extra to encourage families to visit the city centre.

“Events like these are important for local traders because they attract thousands of visitors into the city centre and Maritime Quarter.”

Summer Roller will be open from 10am to 9pm every day while the event is on.

The event is supported by Admiral, Road Safety, Gower College, The Wave and Swansea Sound.
