Admiral Swansea Bay 10k – Give it a go!

ENTRIES CLOSE 31st AUGUST! That’s right you have just over a week to enter, if you’ve been thinking about it, give it a go! The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k is a lovely, flat, scenic route with excellent support from spectators – and you’ll get a nice medal and t-shirt to remember the day by. Enjoy medieval history at Oystermouth Castle

If you are looking for a historical and scenic attraction to visit in Swansea this autumn, you might want to check out Oystermouth Castle. This medieval castle overlooking Mumbles, dates to the 12th century and has a rich history of battles, sieges and royal visits waiting for you to discover.

What’s on in September…
Open Doors – Saturday 9th September, 11am – 5pm
The castle joins more than 200 other historic places across Wales throwing open their doors to offer free entry and guided tours for one day only.

Archaeology Fun Day – Saturday 23rd September, 11am – 4.30pm
Become an archaeologist for the day and learn about the past through ‘have-a-go’ workshops, demonstrations, and displays with the experts from Gower Unearthed.

Guided Tours – every Wednesday and Friday, 11.15am and 2.15pm.
Join the Friends of Oystermouth Castle for a guided tour of the castle’s rooms, ramparts, staircases, and vaults, to gain a glimpse into medieval life and reveal stories of long ago.

You have until next weekend to take part in the summer self-led activities at the Dylan Thomas Centre, drop in on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

Aye aye captain, make a periscope at Swansea Museum next Thursday between 10am and 4pm. Fans of architecture, fashion and all things retro will love the ongoing Twentieth Century Swansea exhibition, take a trip down memory lane.

It’s also the last call for a couple of the Glynn Vivian exhibitions, you have until Sunday 3rd Sep to catch His Dark Materials, until September 24th to catch the summer exhibition On Animals, and Shaping Wales: Bell and Armistead will show off a selection of mid century works from the Glynn Vivian collection until mid November.

Your local library will have regular weekly activities this September – for all ages, children and adult, contact them directly to find out what’s on near you.

What’s on at the Brangwyn Hall

Don’t miss out on the amazing events we have lined up for you this September at the Brangwyn! Kick off the month with Fleetwood Mac by Candlelight on the 9th.  Put on your dancing shoes for our monthly Tea Dance on the 13th or join us for the Gin and Rum Festival on the 16th and be spoilt for choice with over 120 of the best gins and rums on the market.

Huw Williams from Bath Abbey will be performing at September’s free Lunchtime Organ Recital on the 19th. After last year’s successful Maggie’s Ball, the incredible evening of live entertainment, dinner and much more returns on the 22nd for Maggie’s Mardi Gras Ball.

On the 23rd, you can find some fabulous bargains at the Worth the Weight Vintage Kilo Sale, where you can buy vintage and pre-loved clothes.  If you’re planning your big day, you will get an abundance of ideas at the Welsh National Wedding Fayre on the 24th, with a range of wedding suppliers, experts and demonstrations.

We end the month with a bang on the 30th with a night of footstomping, dancing and singing as The Old Time Sailors perform centuries old folk and shanty songs.
