At the heart of the 2016 Swansea International Festival is a concert to remember the tragedy of Aberfan, which occurred 50 years ago. The brilliant Canadian pianist Louis Lortie performs the second Piano Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns, a composer who lost his two sons in infancy; and then a new workThe Shortest Day, commissioned by Swansea International Festival, the Friends of Swansea Festival, and BBC Radio 3, in which new texts by Dr Rowan Williams are set by brilliant young Welsh composer Joseph Davies. And to conclude: Gabriel Fauré’s radiantly beautiful Requiem.
