The making of the animated Under Milk Wood and Cerys Matthews’ version for children
We explore 70 years of Under Milk Wood and two of the most innovative versions of Dylan’s famous play.
In 1982 the first commission from the new Welsh language TV channel S4C was for an animated version of Under Milk Wood. Robin Lyons and Andrew Ofilier from calon.tv will join Alun Gibbard in the parlour to reflect on the huge task of producing thousands of images and linkng into the narration of Richard Burton. Following UMW the calon.tv team went on to create Super Ted and Fireman Sam as Wales led the European animation industry
The conversation will be illustrated with the last remaining original images which will be available for purchase. Before being placed on general release these will be offered to those who sign up for our Dylan Day event. Sizes approx A3 – perfect for framing
Fast forward 40 years and we trace the 10 year long journey of Cerys Matthews to produce a children’s version of Under Milk Wood in conversation with Alun on Zoom.
The showing of the animated version of Under Milk Wood completes an evening of celebration.
