*AN EXHIBITION OF ORIGINAL PRINTS*
Saturday 25th June – Thursday 21st July (10am – 6pm, Saturday 10am – 1pm, 1.30pm – 4pm)
Taliesin Arts Centre

Born in Barcelona, Joan Miro (1893-1983) rejected the restraints of traditional painting, creating works “conceived with fire in the soul but executed with clinical coolness”. Widely considered one of the leading surrealists, though never officially part of the group, Miro enjoyed international acclaim during his long and productive career. He was one of the many outstanding Spaniards-including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali who, by belonging to the School of Paris, helped to establish the high esteem in which it was held during the first half of the 20th century.
He was awarded the Venice Biennale printmaking prize in 1954 and the Guggenheim international award in 1958 and has been a significant influence on late 20th century art, in particular the American abstract expressionists.

A museum dedicated to his work, the Fundacio Joan Miro, was established in his native city of Barcelona in 1975, and another, the Fundacio Pilar i Joan Miro was established in his adoptive city of Palma de Mallorca in 1981.
