Swansea International Jazz Festival presents ‘Big Band Evolution’ from the Laurance Cottle All-Star Big Band – an all-star 16-piece big band with the finest of the UK’s jazz and session musicians.
Led by bassist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and Swansea-born, Laurence Cottle, the band explores the evolution of the Big Band over the years, playing some of the great tunes from the early days of big band through to Buddy Rich, Bob Brookmeyer, Jaco Pastorius, and including some of Laurance’s own amazing compositions.
The ’all-star band’ tag certainly fits the bill for tonight’s show!
The musicians in the band have collectively toured, performed, and recorded with a who’s who in the usic world including: The Eagles, Mike Oldfield, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Mark Knopfler Carlos Santana, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Mick Jagger, BB King, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Kylie Mingoue, Jamiroquai, Gregory Porter, Barry Manilow, Warren Haynes, Chrissie Hynde, Level 42, Marti Pellow, Derek Trucks, Eddie Henderson, Tom Jones, Sting, Black Sabbath, Dave Wekl, Geoffrey Keezer, Brand New Heavies, NYJO, Buddy Rich Big Band The BBC Big Band, John Wilson Orchestra, and Ronnie Scotts Jazz Orchestra, to name a few!
