Summer entertainment kicks off at Clyne Farm Centre with an international evening of poetry, music and dance from Wales and India featuring Tishani Doshi and Steve Balsamo on 6th July (7.30pm).

 

Poet, writer, and dancer Tishani Doshi was born in India, to Welsh and Gujarati parents and is a prolific writer and dancer who has performed all over the world. Her most recent appearance was at the Hay Festival where she interviewed the author Salman Rushdie at the launch of his latest novel. Her debut novel The Pleasure Seekers was a luminous comedy weaving together the worlds of her twin inheritances – India and Wales.

 

Tishani’s most recent book of poetry, Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods was published to great acclaim in 2017 and the UK edition launched at Hay last month published by Bloodaxe Books. She is a former judge of the Swansea University International Dylan Thomas Prize and writes a regular column for The Hindu newspaper.

 

Says Ms Doshi who is in Wales as a guest of the Dylan Thomas Birthplace “I’m really excited to perform for the first time in Swansea and the opportunity of staying at the birthplace of Dylan Thomas for a few days will be a dream come true.”

 

Steve Balsamo is a Swansea born singer, best known for playing the lead role in the London production of Jesus Christ Superstar leading to a memorable headline “The Son of God is Welsh!”

 

Balsamo is also prolific songwriter and has had hits in Europe and Australia with artists such as Meat Loaf, Anthony Callea, Jonathan Cerrada, and Slash of Guns N’ Roses. With his band The Storys he has supported Tom Jones, Santana, Celine Dion, Sinéad O’Connor, Runrig, Van Morrison, Katie Melua, and also Elton John on two European tours.

 

The event will introduce the young Llanelli singer Daisy Owens from Loud Applause Rising Stars and the evening will be hosted by the writer and broadcaster Alun Gibbard whose latest book Into the Wind – the autobiography of rugby coach and intellectual Carwyn James – was the recent runner up in the 2018 British Rugby Book of the Year awards.
