Christmas Day is all about family, food and the festivities – and quite right too – but by Boxing Day you will be ready for some fresh air and exercise!

So here are our top 5 Boxing Day favourites – nothing too strenuous – after all you are on holiday!  So pack up some turkey sandwiches and head for the hills (or the coast) and blow away those Christmas cobwebs!

Walk 1: Up to the Downs

Head up to Rhossili Downs for amazing views across Rhossili Bay to Worm’s Head and Burry Holms.  When you reach Llangennith walk back to Rhossili along the wide expanse of Rhossili beach – but make sure you have enough energy to climb the steps back up to Rhossili village!

Approximately 5 miles and 2 hours and 30 mins duration with two relatively steep ascents.

Walk 2: A Walk in the Woods

Penllergare Valley Woods has a different beauty at this time of year, with the bare branches of this ancient woodland silhouetted against the winter sky.  Take one of the footpath routes to discover how the Penllergare Trust have reclaimed this historical landscape and worked with nature to ensure its enjoyment for generations to come.

Length and duration of walks vary according to route taken.

Walk 3: Stroll along Swansea Bay

Start at the art deco Guildhall and continue along the Promenade passing the Swansea Jack memorial, Singleton and Clyne Parks, right along the spectacular sweep of Swansea Bay until you reach Mumbles.

Approximately 6 miles and 2 hours duration round trip, very flat, accessible route.

Walk 4: Coast Path to Caswell

If you don’t have much time, but want to get a blast of fresh sea air then take a stroll along the Gower Coast Path between lovely Langland and its equally captivating neighbour, Caswell Bay.  The path is mostly even with only a couple of moderate inclines.

Approximately 3 miles and just over an hour for the round trip.

Walk 5: Magnetic North

Fall in love with a new part of the Peninsula.  Beginning at Cwm Ivy in North Gower walk down towards Whiteford Beach, skirting Whiteford Woods, walk along the beach towards Whiteford Point along the Gower Coast Path.  Walk back the same way or take a circular route along the Coast Path inland, behind the dunes.  Round trip approximately 5 miles and 2 hours and 30 minutes duration over some uneven terrain.
