Dinosaurs have landed in Singleton Park!

Tyrannosaurus rex

Tyrannosaurus rex, often called T. rex, was one of the largest and most powerful meat-eating dinosaurs. It lived around 68 to 66 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period. This dinosaur could grow up to 40 feet long and had strong legs for walking and running. Despite having small arms, it had a massive head with sharp teeth that could crush bone. Fossils suggest it was both a predator and a scavenger.

Fun fact: The T. rex was smart too, boasting a brain twice as big as those of the other giant carnivores.

Triceratops

Triceratops was a large, plant-eating dinosaur. It is known for its three facial horns—two above the eyes and one on the nose—and its large bony frill at the back of the head. Triceratops could grow up to 30 feet long and weighed several tons. Its horns and frill may have been used for defence.

Fun fact: Triceratops had between 400 and 800 teeth in its jaws!

Stegosaurus

Stegosaurus was a large, plant-eating dinosaur that lived about 150 million years ago during the late Jurassic period. It is easily recognised by the two rows of large, upright plates along its back and the spikes on its tail, which may have been used for defence. Stegosaurus had a small head with a brain much smaller than its body size, and it likely fed on low-growing plants.

Fun fact: It’s believed that the Stegosaurus swalled rocks to aid digestion.
